The equine residents are a mixture of rescued, retired and unwanted animals.<\/p>\n<p>Chief guardian, Alan Gent, says &#8220;Our challenge has been to alter their flat dull eyes due to neglect and mistreatment, to eyes that are bright and happy, and to give the horse the quality of life it deserves.<br \/>\nUpon regaining the brightness and softness in their eyes, we do our utmost to maintain their recovery.<br \/>\nWe endeavor to carry out the following:<\/p>\n<p><em>1.\u00a0\u00a0 First and foremost the horse should feel safe and secure every day.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>2.\u00a0\u00a0 To be able to graze freely and enjoy a balanced, formulated natural food product, collated to each individual horse. Upon eating this supplied food the horse is not affected in any way by the pecking order, it eats and digests it&#8217;s food in a quiet and peaceful manner.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2393\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2393\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2393 size-full\" title=\"CalanHorseSanctuarycare\" src=\"https:\/\/naturalhorseworld.com\/stage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/CallanHorseSanctuarycare.jpg\" alt=\"CalanHorseSanctuarycare\" width=\"250\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2393\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Everyone receives daily checks and grooming.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><em><em>3.\u00a0\u00a0 A constant supply of fresh drinking water.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em><em><em>4.\u00a0\u00a0 The availability of shelter from the elements, either built structure or trees.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em><em><em><em>5.\u00a0\u00a0 To enjoy the freedom of bare hooves with regular trimming to correct toe and heel lengths.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em><em><em><em><em>6.\u00a0\u00a0 Dental work every twelve months, six monthly if required to repair inherited long standing damage.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em><em><em><em><em><em>7.\u00a0\u00a0 Regular exercise in accordance to health, age and ability of the horse.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em>8.\u00a0\u00a0 To be wormed on a regular basis according to the seasons.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em>9.\u00a0\u00a0 Horses to be rugged during the cold and wet seasons, especially for those who are old or sick.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em> <em>10.\u00a0 Fly veils worn at all times during the fly season.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em>11.\u00a0 Regular checks for injuries during the daily grooming which is given in love, care and respect.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em>12.\u00a0 To restore and aid the self esteem of these damaged horses, removal of all manure from pens and stable yards to be done daily.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>To achieve all of this takes time and money, and Calan Horse Sanctuary is very grateful to those who have provided items such as horse rugs, feed and time.
