{"id":4751,"date":"2014-07-23T14:23:25","date_gmt":"2014-07-23T04:23:25","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=4751"},"modified":"2024-10-09T16:09:11","modified_gmt":"2024-10-09T05:09:11","slug":"watch-thoughts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/naturalhorseworld.com\/stage\/watch-thoughts\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch Your Thoughts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u2013 by Cynthia Cooper<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/CynKodaFinn.jpg\"><img title=\"Watch Your Thoughts - Natural Horse World\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4698\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/CynKodaFinn-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"Cyn,Koda,Finn\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/naturalhorseworld.com\/stage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/CynKodaFinn-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/naturalhorseworld.com\/stage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/CynKodaFinn.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>When I discovered horses (and all other animals) could \u2018hear\u2019 me or telepathically read my mind, I felt bad for \u2018saying\u2019 (thinking) not so nice thoughts about them.<br \/>\nI asked myself \u2013 \u201cWould I greet a good friend with \u2018hello fattie\u2019 or say \u2018Get going you lazy slob\u2019?<\/p>\n<p>I was embarrassed at some of the derogatory thoughts or messages I was sending my horses and decided I would be more polite.<br \/>\nNow I address them with respect \u2013 adding a Miss, Mrs or Mr to their names seems to help.<\/p>\n<p>And I watch my thoughts, taking special note of the negative ones that creep into my mind through exposure to so much negative media on television, radio and in newspapers that seems to perpetuate negative.<br \/>\nJust the other day, I was reminded to change my negative thought to a positive \u2013 or it would be self-fulfilling!<\/p>\n<p>My young Arabian gelding used to get excited about getting his feed delivered and as I walked over to the feed tub, he would sometimes lash out with excitement.<br \/>\nWhen I focused on thinking about him walking calmly to the feed bin and used my tongue click to mark good behaviour (followed by the food delivery), he stopped kicking out.<br \/>\nBut the other day, he was walking quite close to me and I came into line with his hip, and found myself thinking \u2018you\u2019re a good boy for not kicking at me\u2019 and then he leapt forward and threw two hind feet at me!<\/p>\n<p>I then remembered reading somewhere that animals don\u2019t hear the \u2018not, don\u2019t, can\u2019t etc.\u2019 ahead of a word \u2013 and think you want them to do that action (nip, kick etc), so are actually complying with your request!<br \/>\nIt reminded me that if we think of something in the negative tense, we can fix that by turning it around into the positive.<br \/>\nFor example, if I\u2019d followed my negative thought \u2018\u2026for not kicking me\u2019 with \u2018\u2026so please keep walking quietly to the feed bin\u2019, I\u2019m sure that would have happened.<br \/>\nHere are some more examples of how to change a negative thought into a positive:<br \/>\n&#8211; \u2018Don\u2019t you nip me\u2019 to \u2018keep your nose to yourself\u2019<br \/>\n&#8211; \u2018I hope he doesn\u2019t buck\u2019 to \u2018Lets see if we can canter and maintain forward\u2019<br \/>\n&#8211; That looks scary \u2013 hope he doesn\u2019t shy\u2019 to \u2018It\u2019s only a wheelie bin so be brave and walk right by\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Thinking in the negative is not always a bad thing \u2013 it can help us see a potential problem (or manufacture one!), which won\u2019t become a reality if we follow up those thoughts with a positive solution.<br \/>\nSo watch you thoughts!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2013 by Cynthia Cooper When I discovered horses (and all other animals) could \u2018hear\u2019 me or telepathically read my mind, I felt bad for \u2018saying\u2019 (thinking) not so nice thoughts about them.
