Bitless bridles
How does a LightRider bitless bridle work?
There is no bit in your horse’s mouth. All LightRider bridles work the same way, with a gentle ‘sidecue’ action on the nose, cheeks and poll and a unique releasing chinstrap, so the signal is clear and your horse feels the release the moment it responds.
Which style of bridle should I choose?
Any style works on a well-educated horse, but some suit different riding better. Our bridle choices chart matches English, Western and Stock styles to dressage, trail, showing, working horses and more. If your horse is still learning or heavy on the rein, the rope Performer is the strongest option. Still unsure? Ask Cynthia.
How do I measure my horse for a bridle?
Measure around the nose, three to four fingers below the cheekbones where a cavesson sits, and over the poll from one side of the noseband to the other. A piece of string or flexible tape is fine. Full sizes and a size-by-height guide are in the sizing guide, and the Amalia measurements are on its product page.
What if I order the wrong size?
You can return or exchange within 30 days of delivery. Clean, ‘as new’ LightRider bridles can be returned for a full refund. Return postage for a change of size is at your expense; see returns, warranty & shipping for the steps.
Which material is best – leather, Biothane or rope?
Biothane and the rope Performer are the most durable, and rope comes in the most colours and doubles as a halter or lead for groundwork. Leather (including English leather on the Euro and Dressage bridles) is the choice if you want the classic look. The Bitless Noseband is the lightest and most affordable.
Will my horse stop and steer without a bit?
Yes. You use the same aids – seat, leg and rein – and ask through the nose instead of the mouth. Start somewhere familiar and most horses adapt within a ride or two. Our guides cover the switch step by step.
Slow feed hay nets
What makes your nets different from cheaper ones?
Ours are made in Australia from UV-stabilised marine-grade polyethylene, so they last longer in sun and water. They use square-hole netting rather than diamond, which doesn’t close up as the hay is eaten, so your horse can reach the last of it.
Can I use a net on the ground?
Yes, and we recommend it. Feeding from ground level is a more natural position, and your horse can push against the ground to get the last bits out. Tie the net at one end only, to a fence, tree or tyre, so it can be flipped over but not dragged away or pushed under a rail.
Is the netting safe if my horse chews it?
For most horses, yes. If your horse chews holes, repair them straight away with baling twine or mending twine. Always tie up the drawstring so there is no hoof-sized loop, and only secure one end of the net.
How long does a net last?
We’ve seen them last three to four years and longer, provided small holes are fixed as soon as you see them. Store the net away from mice and rats when it isn’t in use. More answers are in the slow feed net guide.
Orders & shipping
How can I pay?
At checkout you can pay by credit or debit card, PayPal (including PayPal Pay Later where it’s offered), Apple Pay or Google Pay. Customers in Australia can also choose direct deposit (bank transfer), and we’ll ship once the payment has cleared. Payments are processed securely by Stripe and PayPal, so we never see or store your card details.
When will my order ship?
We ship from Tasmania every Tuesday and Friday morning for orders placed before 9am that day. Minerals are sent directly from the manufacturer, so the cut-off is 11am on Monday and Thursday. Weekends, public holidays and weather can cause delays.
How much is shipping?
Within Australia there is a flat rate of $10. International rates and the estimated delivery time for each option are shown at checkout.
Do you ship overseas?
Yes, worldwide. Airmail takes roughly 7–14 business days to most countries (longer to Canada), Pack & Track is 7–10 and Express Courier 2–5. Customs and import tax depend on your country and are your responsibility, except for the USA where they are included at purchase. Full details are on the shipping page.
Can I track my parcel?
Australian e-parcels and Express Post are trackable, and international Pack & Track and Express Courier can be tracked too. Your tracking number is emailed when your order ships – check your junk folder if it doesn’t arrive. You can also use order tracking. For orders over AU $100 to overseas addresses we suggest a tracked option, because untracked airmail isn’t replaced if it goes missing.
What if I’m not home for delivery?
Australia Post will leave your parcel in a safe place if no one can sign for it. Add a note at checkout if you’d prefer a particular spot, or choose a signed-for option such as Express e-parcel.
Returns & warranty
What is your returns policy?
You can return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund or store credit. Contact us first and we’ll send a Return Form. Original shipping isn’t refundable, and return postage is at your expense unless the product is faulty.
Is there a warranty?
Most products come with a 12-month warranty against manufacturing faults. If something is faulty, we pay for the return shipping.
How should I send a return?
Use the original packaging where possible. Returns worth more than AU $100 must go by a tracked method, or you carry the risk if they don’t arrive. Our address is Natural Horse World, 80 Dam Rd, Saltwater River, Tasmania 7186.
