I bought this halter for ZigZag, my young donkey. I am getting him ready to be ridden. I will only do this if he enjoys it and I’m hoping this halter will make the experience comfortable and kind. ZigZag comes running to me when he sees me with his halter so I think he approves. I like that it has a breakaway. He looks spectacular in it too. It’s often hard to find gear that fits donkeys well as they are such different proportions to horses. My LightRider halter is easily adjustable and fits ZigZag well.

I waited a while before sending this review, in case I was wrong about the riding halter, but I can now say with certainty that this really is the best multi purpose headgear I’ve ever used, and after using it for a few weeks I can honestly say I wish I had one years ago for all my other horses. I won’t be without one from here on.
Right now I’m doing basic handling, leading, lunging and groundwork with my small pony, and this DOES EVERYTHING without me needing to change gear when going from one thing to the next. It’s light and comfortable, stable on the head no matter what direction the lead is coming from, and therefore clear in its communication. No knots poking him anywhere, comfy nose, easy to do up and undo buckle, and good looking on top of everything!
Soon I’ll use it to start harness training with the little fellow as it has rings to attach reins, and I can use the chin strap OR make it a simple sidepull, whatever my pony needs.

I love it’s simple, yet clever design.
From the soft light rope to the stylish buckle, the halter is functional as it can be used with a lead for ground work, for trail riding or more connected riding. The chinstrap ensures no rotation keeping it away from the eyes. We found it a resounding success!

So far, it’s been great, the sliding ring works beautifully to help get an inward bend with ground work, and the buckle attachment is very easy to use. I haven’t yet used it for riding but it’s nice to go from lead rope to direct reins and help train the horse while on the ground.
